
Occupational Therapy
After 30 years of volunteering and working in different fields of intellectual and physical disability. l was fortunate to have the opportunity to study Occupational Therapy in 2016 at AUT in Auckland.
I have for the last 7 years been working in Community Mental Health with young adults suffering from anxiety, depression, psychosis including long enduring conditions like Schizophrenia and various mood disorders. In recent years I have also been working with people face to face and online to help them to overcome negative thinking patterns, set boundaries and achieve their goals.
My practice encompasses working with children (4yrs and older), adolescents, adults and elderly clients, delivering comprehensive occupational therapy interventions tailored to each age group’s specific needs and developmental stages.
As an OT l do not ask “What’s the matter with you”? I am more focused and concerned about “What matters to you”? and how we can work together to realise goals and overcome obstacles so that you can do the things you need and want to do, and live the life you deserve.
EFT Emotional Freedom Tapping
EFT which stands for Emotional Freedom Technique is a powerful technique integrating psychotherapy and acupressure. Commonly known as tapping, this technique utilises components of cognitive therapy, somatic stimulation, and exposure therapy and has been shown to reduce anxiety and emotional intensity while restoring your body’s energy balance. Referred to as psychological acu-pressure without the needles, EFT deactivates stress and calms the stress centres of our brain that deal with emotions and memories.
EFT is a painless technique that you can apply to yourself to support you through simple or complex issues. Research shows that EFT has been successful in alleviating issues like depression, anxiety, insomnia, as well as severe PTSD, physical pain, cravings, phobias and even illness.
How does EFT work in our brain?
By stimulating pressure points on the body with two finger tapping while speaking your worries out loud, gives a voice to the negative thoughts and emotions within us. This sends a calming signal to the stress centre of our brain, the amygdala, and our memory centre, the hippocampus, to deactivate stress responses and release negative emotions and unhelpful thoughts. EFT is easy to use and can be used anywhere, even by young children.
